Written Answers. - Small Dwellings (Acquisition) Acts.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state, in relation to the Small Dwellings (Acquisition) Acts, (1) the total amount of loans sanctioned and received by local authorities up to the 31st March, 1952, (2) the total amount of such loans outstanding on that date; (3) the total sum advanced to borrowers by that date, and (4) the total number of houses in respect of which such borrowing was made; and, in respect of operations during the year ended 31st March, 1952, (a) the number of local authorities in respect of which loans were sanctioned, (b) the total amount of such loans; (c) the total sum advanced to borrowers, and (d) the total number of houses in respect of which these advances were made.

The following are the particulars:—

(1)Total amount of loans to local authorities sanctioned up to 31st March, 1952—£14,012,816.

Total amount of loans received by local authorities up to 31st March, 1952—£12,136,679.

(2)Total amount of such loans outstanding at 31st March, 1952—£9,869,952.

(3)Total sum advanced to borrowers by 31st March, 1952—£10,546,844.

(4)The total number of houses in respect of which such borrowing was made—14,290.

(a)Number of local authorities in respect of which loans were sanctioned during the year ended 31st March, 1952—29.

(b)The total amount of such loans during year ended 31st March, 1952—£2,465,000.

(c)The total sum advanced to borrowers during year ended 31st March, 1952—£3,460,959.

(d)The number of houses in respect of which these advances were made—2,728.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the names of (1) the county boroughs; (2) urban districts and boroughs; (3) county councils for whom loans under the Small Dwellings (Acquisition) Acts were sanctioned for each of the years ended 31st March, 1951, and 31st March, 1952, and the amount sanctioned in the case of each authority.
