Vol. 245 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Departmental Development Units.

14.

asked the Minister for Finance how many departmental development units were established and in which Departments before the end of 1969 in accordance with the hope expressed by him in a reply of 16th July last; how many more have since been established; in which Departments; and what further departmental development units it is proposed to establish in the immediate future.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to a series of the Deputy's questions on progress under the Third Programme, on the 23rd July last, where I stated that the programme itself provides for periodic and comprehensive assessments of progress, which will be published prior to the Budget each year. The assessment for 1969 is published today and covers, inter alia, the matters raised by the Deputy.

Arising out of the fact that this report does not answer the question in any clear-cut terms, could the Minister now say what the position is and how many development units have been established, if any?

I shall be dealing with that tomorrow.

15.

asked the Minister for Finance whether, in the case of departmental development units already established or in contemplation, they have or will have professional heads.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to a similar question on 16th July, 1969, where I stated that the staffing of departmental development units would be settled in the light of the circumstances of different Departments and the availability of suitably qualified personnel.
