Student general nurses do not come within the ambit of the recent pay award for nurses. A claim on behalf of the student nurses is at present being negotiated by the Irish Nurses' Organisation with the Hospitals Commission.
The recent pay award was a 10 per cent "status" increase to qualified general trained nurses and was over and above the ordinary national wage rounds. It has not been the practice to apply "status" increases automatically awarded to qualified nurses to the student general nurses.
