asked the Minister for Health if any plans are before his Department for reviewing the functions of the Medical Registration Council; or if any submissions have been made to him in this regard and, if so, by whom.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Medical Registration Council.
My Department have had under consideration certain proposals for the amendment of the Medical Practitioners Acts which would involve some changes in the functions of the Medical Registration Council. The council made submissions to my predecessor on this. No further submissions have been made to me in regard to alterations in the functions of the council.
May I ask the Minister when he is bringing in the Bill to amend the functions of the Medical Registration Council?
I could not say.
Is the Minister aware of the great deficiencies in the present powers and functions of the council, which are very much outdated and outmoded and would he not agree there is a need to examine this as a matter of urgency?
I am not aware that there is dissatisfaction but I would be prepared to receive any representations there may be in the matter.
