Vol. 320 No. 9

Written Answers - Killarney Local Authority Houses.

195.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason for the delay by Killarney UDC, County Kerry, in issuing the title deeds to the purchasers of local authority houses at Marian Place, St. Brendan's Place, Dalton's Avenue, and Allman's Terrace, Killarney.

I understand that in the case of some 15 tenants of houses at Marian Place, St. Brendan's Place, Dalton's Avenue and Allman's Terrace, Killarney, who applied to purchase their houses under the July 1973 tenant purchase scheme there has been a delay in the making of transfer orders. This is due to the fact that draft transfer orders which had been forwarded to the tenants for signature were not returned to the council for sealing until after the enactment of the Landlord and Tenant (Ground Rents) Act, 1978. As the transfer orders were intended to transfer a leasehold interest, it was necessary to redraft the orders to take account of the provisions of the Act which required that all sales of local authority dwellings after 16 May 1978 should be in fee-simple.

I am informed that these revised orders will be available for signature by the tenant purchasers in the near future.
