asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware of the outbreak of maedi visna disease in sheep in Northern Ireland; and the precautions being taken to prevent the spread of the disease to this part of the country.
Written Answers. - Sheep Disease Outbreak.

I am aware that evidence of the existence of maedi visna disease has recently been found in Northern Ireland in a small number of nonindigenous sheep in that area. The veterinary inspectors of my Department have been in close contact with those of Northern Ireland, and I am satisfied that adequate steps are being taken to prevent any spread of the disease. The position will continue to be kept under review.
