Vol. 322 No. 11

Written Answers. - Castlebar Secondary School.

74.

asked the Minister for Education the reason a letter has not issued to the authorities of the Convent of Mercy secondary school, Castlebar, County Mayo, authorising them to proceed to advertise for tenders in respect of major extension and reconstruction work to the school; and if he will have such approval issued forthwith.

Satisfactory documentary evidence of title to the site of the school has not been furnished in this case. It would not be open to the Department under the terms of the scheme for the payment of grants towards the building of recognised secondary schools to sanction grant payments in respect of the project until such evidence of title is available.

The question is being considered, however, of issuing a letter of qualified approval for the invitation of tenders in the meantime. A decision in this regard will be expedited as much as possible.
