Vol. 323 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions . Oral Answers . - Irish Association of Civil Liberty .

20.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will outline, with reference to his reply to a parliamentary question on 17 June 1980 relating to a request from the Irish Association of Civil Liberty for a meeting with him, why he indicated on that occassion that he had no record of the receipt of such a request, in view of the fact that a meeting had been requested in a letter dated 22 May 1980 which was acknowledged by his office on 27 May 1980; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

: I regret that my reply to the Deputy's question of 17 June 1980 incorrectly stated that I had no record of the receipt of a request from the Irish Association of Civil Liberty for a meeting with me. The error was due to the fact that the letter, dated 22 May 1980, from the association dealt only with the question of delays in the giving of judgments in the High Court, while the only specific reference in the Deputy's question was to the need to reform court procedures, with the result that the question was dealt with by a different section of the Department.

I have been in correspondence with the association and I have agreed to meet a deputation to discuss their complaints.

: Thank you.
