asked the Minister for Justice if he will list the number of advisory bodies set up by his Department and give details of the activities of these bodies and the budgetary provisions for each of them.

Name of Body

Terms of Reference

Criminal Legal Aid Review Committee

To review the criminal legal aid scheme under the Criminal Justice (Legal Aid) Act, 1962 and to make recommendations as to the manner in which the scheme might be improved.

Committee on Mentally Ill and Maladjusted Persons

To examine and report on the provisions, legislative, administrative and otherwise which the committee consider to be necessary or desirable in relation to persons—including drug advisers, psychopaths and emotionally disturbed and maladjusted children and adolescents—who have come, or appear likely to come, in conflict with the law and who may be in need of psychiatric treatment.

Garda Communications Advisory Group

To advise regarding the provision of an up-to-date efficient communications system for the Garda Síochána.

Committee on Court Practice and Procedure

To review the operation of the courts with a view to improving practice and procedure by legal and other changes.

Landlord and Tenant Commission

To inquire into the working of the law relating to landlord and tenant—other than the Rent Restrictions Acts, 1960 and 1967—and to recommend amendments, if any, in the law as the commission think proper.

Irish Legal Terms Advisory Committee

To advise the Minister for Justice in regard to the making of orders that declare equivalents in the Irish language of legal terms and in regard to the publication of forms and precedents in Irish.

There is no budgetary provision for any of these committees as all members give their services voluntarily. Any expenses incurred in travelling and subsistence are, however, paid by the Department.
