Vol. 323 No. 6

Written Answers . - Consumer Affairs .

345.

asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Tourism the number of complaints from the general public received by the Director of Consumer Affairs in the past year to the latest available date.

: I understand from the Director of Consumer Affairs that he received 540 complaints in the twelve months ended 31 August 1980.

I would refer the Deputy to the Director's Annual Report for 1979 under section 9 of the Consumer Information Act, 1978. Paragraph 2.1 of that report gives a breakdown of complaints received in that year. A copy of the report is available in the Dáil Library.

346.

asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Tourism the number of prosecutions brought by the Director of Consumer Affairs since assuming office.

: I understand from the Director of Consumer Affairs that he has not, so far, instituted any prosecutions.
