Vol. 333 No. 6

Written Answers. - Rural Electrification.

338.

asked the Minister for Industry and Energy the reasons for the delay in installing electricity at Innishbofin, Connemara, County Galway; and if he will now give the estimated completion date for this scheme.

I have been informed by the ESB that the position on the provision of electricity supply to Innishbofin island, County Galway, is as follows:

The delay in completing the installation of electricity supply on the island is due solely to difficulties experienced in arranging for the construction of the generator buildings on the island. The other necessary work, including the purchase of generators, the erection of the electricity network and the servicing of the houses has been completed.

The contract for the construction of the generator buildings has now been placed on the construction work, which will commence in the near future, is due to be completed in September 1982. The ESB has confirmed that if the construction work is completed on target, electricity supply will be available on the island by November 1982.
