Vol. 346 No. 4

Written Answers. - Oranmore (Galway) Pedestrian Crossing.

299.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason for the delay in approving the proposal from Galway County Council for the provision of a pelican crossing at Oranmore, County Galway.

300.

asked the Minister for the Environment the estimated cost of providing a controlled pedestrian crossing in Oranmore, County Galway, in the 1984 national primary road block grant to Galway County Council.

I propose to take Question Nos. 299 and 300 together.

The provision of a pedestrian crossing is a matter for the road authority concerned. In November 1982 Galway County Council indicated that the estimated cost of providing a controlled pedestrian crossing at this location was £5,500. I understand from the council that on 24 November 1983 they placed an advertisement in the public press seeking tenders for the provision of the pedestrian crossing. The cost of the work falls to be financed from the council's own resources, supplemented by the block grant allocated annually by my Department.
