Ceist:75 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Justice if the Garda have investigated a case concerning the alleged theft of £750,000 worth of tobacco in 1993; and, if so, the current state of the Garda investigation.

I have been informed by the Garda authorities that the case concerned has been the subject of a thorough Garda investigation. A file in the matter was referred to the Director of Public Prosecutions who instructed that there be no prosecution. I would only add that, as a result of Garda inquiries, the stolen property was recovered last June in London.
