Vol. 443 No. 6

Request to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 30.

I request leave to move the Adjournment of Dáil Éireann under Standing Order 30 for the purpose of discussing the following specific and important matter of public interest, that is, the detailed statement issued by the Tánaiste late last night regarding the operation of the business migration scheme and the circumstances of the investment in C & D Foods by two people who received Irish passports; the announcement by the Tánaiste of an expanded review of the scheme; the findings of the Tánaiste that this was conducted in an ethical, above board and arms length way and the need for the Tánaiste to give a detailed report to the House on his investigations, especially in view of the fact that he did not participate in the debate on Tuesday and having regard to the futility of his Inspector Clouseau-style investigation of the files on this matter.

Having considered the matter fully I do not consider it to be one contemplated by the Standing Order and, accordingly, I cannot grant leave to move the motion.

Of course not.
