The new statutory Irish Sports Council will be operational from 1 July 1999. I have just signed the order designating 1 July as the establishment day for the council in accordance with Section 4 of the Irish Sports Council Act, 1999 (No. 6 of 1999) which came into law on 18 May 1999.
