Vol. 511 No. 6

Written Answers. - Nursing Home Subventions.

Róisín Shortall

Ceist:

266 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Health and Children if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 140 of 17 November 1999, he will honour his commitment to assist a person (details supplied) in Dublin 11 in view of the fact that there is no suitable accommodation available for him and the proprietors of the two nursing homes suggested by him have stated this; and the steps, if any, he will take to assist his family by way of contracting his current bed or facilitating the payment of a subvention for this facility. [24994/99]

As the Deputy is aware I have requested the Eastern Health Board to consider all available options for the provision of suitable accommodation in this case subject to the requirements of the Health (Nursing Home) Act 1990, and the Health (Nursing Home) (Subvention) Regulations 1993. I have again made inquiries of the Eastern Health Board in this matter and I understand that the long-term care of the patient in question is still being considered. I will reply to the Deputy on the matter at the earliest opportunity.
