Vol. 525 No. 5

Written Answers. - Milk Quota.

Michael Creed

Ceist:

204 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the method by which the 500,000 gallon additional quota was distributed; and the maximum and minimum amount allocated to individual farmers. [25538/00]

Under the Agenda 2000 negotiations 20.5 million gallons of additional milk quota were allocated to Ireland with effect from 1 April 2000. Some 20 million gallons were distributed by way of the 15 million gallon scheme, for producers with quotas under 55,000 gallons, and the five million gallon scheme for younger producers. I set aside 500,000 gallons to cater for those producers who for exceptional reasons fell outside the provisions of these two schemes. The eligibility criteria for the allocation of that 500,000 gallons of additional milk quota were published in August 2000. The milk quota appeals tribunal considered the cases under this scheme and made recommendations to me.

In addition there were a number of applicants under the five million gallons scheme who furnished proof of eligibility after this scheme had been finalised. In those cases, an allocation from the 500,000 gallons was also granted following recommendations from the tribunal. The maximum amount allocated was 2,390 gallons and the minimum amount was 112 gallons.

Ceist:

205 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if he has received an application from a person (details supplied) in County Cork for additional milk quota from the milk quota appeals tribunal. [25539/00]

I understand that the person in question has submitted an application for additional quota to the milk quota appeals tribunal and his case was considered at a recent meeting of the tribunal. The person named will be notified of the outcome of his application shortly.
