Vol. 526 No. 4

Written Answers. - Asylum Reception Centre.

Nora Owen

Ceist:

329 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform his proposals for an asylum reception centre adjacent to Dublin airport; the location of this centre; the nature of the buildings and facilities; the number that will be accommodated; the duration of time a person will be there; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26975/00]

I assume the Deputy is referring to the request for tender, published earlier this month, for the provision of a facility to accommodate up to 400 asylum seekers, on the tenderers' own site, within a ten mile radius of Dublin Airport.

The tender documents require that the buildings to be supplied for accommodation purposes, together with the buildings for the necessary ancillary facilities such as kitchens, communal dining facilities, reception and so forth be temporary, that is, system built or prefabricated, in nature.

It is anticipated that asylum seekers will be accommodated in this facility for up to six months while their applications for asylum are being determined in accordance with the procedures in place.
