I am committed to the introduction of a system of statutory registration for health and social care professionals, including chiropodists and podiatrists. My Department agreed the principles of a system with a number of professional bodies representing health and social care professions in November of last year. Draft heads of a Bill have been submitted to this Department and it is envisaged that these will be submitted to Government in the coming months and approval will be sought to proceed with the drafting of a Bill based on these heads.
