Vol. 550 No. 2

Written Answers. - Sports Funding.

Ned O'Keeffe

Ceist:

232 Mr. N. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Finance if he has satisfied himself that Irish Sports Council funding is not being used to defray debts by clubs and associations around the country (details supplied); if he will request the Revenue Commissioners to investigate this matter and have an examination of all clubs and associations that have incurred revenue debts, if they are qualifying for money from the Irish Sports Council; and the location those moneys are being spent. [8271/02]

This is a matter in the first instance for the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation as the Irish Sports Council comes under the aegis of his Department.

Ensuring that a grant, subsidy or other similar payment is used for the intended purpose is primarily a matter for the relevant body that provides the payment and the Revenue Commissioners would not have any role in this matter.
