Vol. 562 No. 6

Written Answers - Reinstatement Procedure.

Róisín Shortall

Ceist:

111 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Education and Science the protocols or procedures to be followed by boards of management of schools in the event of allegations of abuse being made against a staff member who is subsequently found to be innocent by a court; the reason a person (details supplied) in County Tipperary has not yet been reinstated; the action which he will take to ensure that this person's rights are upheld; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6880/03]

My Department issued a booklet to all primary schools in 2001 entitled Child Protection Guidelines and Procedures, which outlined the procedures to be followed by boards of management in their handling of allegations, including those referred to by the Deputy. The reinstatement of the person in question is a matter for the board of management as employer.
