Pay reductions for 2 Oireachtas Office holders were implemented on a voluntary basis with effect from 10 March 2011 by the Houses of the Oireachtas Commission. Legislation to implement pay reductions for Office holders was enacted in December 2011 effective from 1 January 2012 under the Financial Emergency Measures in the Public Interest (Amendment) Act, 2011 and provides for reductions in remuneration for Oireachtas Office holders, including the President, as follows:

The remuneration of the current President is protected under the Constitution by virtue of Article 12.11.3 which provides that the emoluments and allowances of the President shall not be reduced while in Office. However, the current President has voluntarily waived sums due in respect of his entitlements under the legislation.
