Deputy Jim O'Callaghan asked the Minister for Justice the number of fixed penalty notices issued by gardai within F District within DMR for driving a vehicle while holding a mobile phone in the years of 2022, 2023 and to-date in 2024, in tabular form; and if she will make a statement on the matter. As the Deputy will be aware, under the Garda Síochána Act 2005 (as amended), the Garda Commissioner is responsible for the administration and management of An Garda Síochána, which includes the enforcement of road traffic legislation. As Minister, I have no role in these matters.

The table below, which was provided to me by the Garda authorities, sets out the number of Fixed Charge Notices issued by Garda authorities in the F district for holding a mobile phone.
