The Chair of the Joint Committee on the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Islands, Catherine Connolly TD, will lead a delegation to Gaeltacht Mhúscraí on 2 October 2017. The delegation will consider a number of issues including language plans, local development, education in the Gaeltacht, local services and the future of the Gaeltacht for young people living and working in the area.
Deputy Connolly said: “The delegation will meet with representatives of Comharchumann Forbartha Mhúscraí Teoranta and Údarás na Gaeltachta, with representatives from Scoil Abán Naofa, Scoil Chúil Aodha, Scoil Fionnbarra, Scoil Lachtaín Naofa, Scoil Réidh Na nDoirí, Coláiste Ghobnatan and Scoil Mhuire and with representatives of the day centres in Cill na Martra, Béal Átha an Ghaorthaidh and Baile Bhuirne. We will travel to the three day centres to view how they operate and we will also meet with young people living, working and attending secondary school in Gaeltacht Mhúscraí.”
Committee member Andrias Moynihan said: “We are looking forward to hearing proposals from the local community for greater development, investment and services in the Múscraí Ghaeltacht. The delegation will identify the issues and challenges facing the local communities in Gaeltacht Mhúscraí and will bring these back to the Committee, to the Houses of the Oireachtas and to the relevant Ministers.”
