Paschal Donohoe to brief Finance Committee on Tracker Mortgage issue

Paschal Donohoe, TD, Minister for Finance and Public Expenditure and Reform will appear before the Committee. The Committee will engage with the Minister on matters relating to tracker mortgages, after which, it will be briefed on the ‘Public Service Framework for Future Development & Innovation: Our Public Service 2020.’

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Chairman, John McGuinness TD, said today, “The Committee welcomes this opportunity to engage directly with Minister Donohoe on the tracker mortgage issue. By hearing directly from affected customers, the Committee has heard how the tracker mortgage scandal has impacted citizens. The Committee is keen to ensure that the Government plays its part in resolving this issue. “

“It is understood that the five chief executives of the main retail banks - Allied Irish Banks, Bank of Ireland, Ulster Bank, KBC and Permanent TSB - informed the Department of Finance late last year that they intend to establish an Irish Banking Standards Board.  The Committee is keen to discuss this development with the Minister, as well as plans for restitution for the victims of this crisis.”

“The Committee will also examine the new Public Service Framework document with the Minister. The Public Service Framework is a new framework for driving development and innovation with the aim of creating a stronger public service over the period 2018 to 2020 and beyond. The Committee is interested to hear how the public service is changing; what the Minister’s plans are for increasing efficiencies and services to the public and how the increased expectations for public services will be met.”
