Joint Committee on Transport and Communications to meet for discussion on the management of passenger numbers in light of the 32 million passenger cap

22 Samh 2023, 10:35

The Joint Committee on Transport and Communications will meet today, Wednesday, 22nd November to discuss the management of passenger numbers at Dublin Airport in light of the passenger cap of 32 million passengers per annum at 1:30pm in Committee Room 2 of Leinster House.

The Committee will engage with Mr Kenny Jacobs, Chief Executive Officer, daa.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Leas-Chathaoirleach Senator Gerry Horkan said: “Our Committee looks forward to discussing the management of passenger numbers at Dublin Airport with daa CEO Kenny Jacobs this afternoon. As a Committee, we remain vigilant to all possibilities of disruption to incoming & outgoing passengers in the run up to the very busy Christmas travel period.

The daa have continually worked with this Committee regarding the provision of accurate information in their managing of problematic travel periods and have always made themselves available to provide up-dates when necessary. The Committee will seek information on the current position at the airport and look to daa to outline how they envisage managing any potential difficulties with the passenger number cap that could arise over the holiday period and into the future.

It is important that the Committee and the public generally understand where things stand in this regard so that Dublin airport – a vital part of our national infrastructure – continues to adequately serve the State’s needs.”

The meeting in Committee Room 2 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.

The Joint Committee on Transport and Communications  has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
