Joint Committee on Transport and Communications to meet for discussion on bus services in Dublin, Wicklow, Meath and Kildare

29 Samh 2023, 11:06

The Joint Committee on Transport and Communications will meet today, Wednesday, 29th November to discuss bus services in Dublin, Wicklow, Meath and Kildare at 1:30pm in Committee Room 2 of Leinster House.

The Committee will engage with:

Ms Anne Graham, CEO of the National Transport Authority (NTA)

Mr Stephen Kent, CEO, Bus Éireann

Mr Billy Haan, CEO, Dublin Bus

Ms Dervla McKay, Managing Director, Go-Ahead Ireland

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Leas-Chathaoirleach Senator Gerry Horkan said: “Our meeting this afternoon is follow-up on engagement we have had previously with the management of the major bus providers to the Dublin, Wicklow, Meath and Kildare region. We have seen significant growth in the numbers of people using services that operate either wholly or partially within the greater Dublin area, which covers Dublin, Meath, Wicklow and Kildare.

“The Committee will seek information on the current position of these providers and look to them to outline how they are managing potential difficulties with the ever-increasing passenger numbers into 2024 and beyond and to what they can provide for the commuters to enhance the services.

“We understand the importance of bus services for people in Dublin and the surrounding counties and it is imperative that a quality, reliable and sustainable public transport system is provided for them.”

The meeting in Committee Room 2 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.

The Joint Committee on Transport and Communications  has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
