4 Noll 2023, 16:51

The Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence will meet on Tuesday December 5th to discuss the latest developments in Ukraine.

The meeting will take place in Committee Room 2 of Leinster House between 15:15-18:15.

H.E Larysa Gerasko - Ambassador of Ukraine to Ireland and Mr Oleksandr Merezhko - Chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Inter-parliamentary cooperation, Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine will appear at the Committee.

Speaking ahead of the meeting Deputy Charlie Flanagan said: “We welcome the opportunity to hear from the Ambassador and the Chair of Ukraine’s Foreign Affairs Committee on the latest developments in Ukraine, including ongoing war and its visible challenges for the future."

“Tuesday marks the 650th day of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine which has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and untold devastation. Thousands of Ukrainians have sought refuge in Ireland while we also continue to provide humanitarian assistance. As we head into the winter, it is expected that Russia will target Ukraine’s energy sector which would lead to many more deaths.”

“Ireland and the European Union continue to demonstrate strong support for Ukraine in resisting Russian aggression and we must continue to work to ensure vital humanitarian assistance reaches Ukraine this winter.”
