The Joint Committee on Justice to resume engagement with Minister for Justice on Policing Matters

6 Noll 2023, 16:56

The Joint Committee on Justice chaired by Deputy James Lawless will meet tomorrow, Thursday 7th December 2023 to resume engagement on Policing Matters with the Minister for Justice, Ms Helen McEntee TD.

Speaking ahead of the meeting at 9:30am in Committee Room 1 of Leinster House, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy James Lawless TD said “The meeting tomorrow with the Minister for Justice comes after our engagement with Garda Commissioner Drew Harris last week. It presents the opportunity for our Committee to get detail on what happened and what actions were taken by both the Minister and Department of Justice following the tragic attacks on the schoolchildren and their carer on Parnell Street and the ensuing scenes of looting and violence in Dublin City Centre on November 23rd. We will seek insights and  information on how Minister McEntee plans to ensure that the chaotic scenes we saw never happen again.

“We reiterate our continued support for An Garda Síochána and the Department of Justice in striving to make sure Ireland, its cities, towns and most importantly its people are kept safe.”
