Joint Committee on Key Issues affecting the Traveller Community to resume discussions on Traveller accommodation

13 Noll 2023, 15:30

The Joint Committee on Key Issues affecting the Traveller Community (2023) will meet tomorrow, Thursday, 14 December, to discuss Traveller accommodation matters with representatives from Pavee Point Traveller and Roma Centre, Cena Culturally Appropriate Homes and National Traveller MABS.

Speaking ahead of the meeting at 10:30am in Committee Room 2 of Leinster House, Committee Cathaoirleach Senator Eileen Flynn said: “As we continue our work in trying to ensure that suitable accommodation is provided to all Travellers, it is vital that the Committee hears from a range of voices from across the community.

“It is of particular importance that Traveller accommodation is culturally appropriate and that the needs and wishes of Travellers are taken into account when designing accommodation schemes.

“The Committee is interested in discussing culturally appropriate accommodation, Traveller Accommodation Programmes and the Caravan Loan Scheme among other matters.”

The Joint Committee on Key Issues affecting the Traveller Community (2023) has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad. The Committee was re-established in June 2023 to continue the work of the previous Committee, whose final report can be found here.

The meeting in Committee Room 2 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
