Joint Committee on Children, Equality, Disability, Integration & Youth meets for Pre-Committee stage detailed scrutiny of the Parental Bereavement Leave

The meeting will hear from:

Session One

·       Officials from Dept. of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth, Ms Carol Baxter, Assistant Secretary and Ms Lisa Hughes, Assistant Principal, and

·       Réada Cronin T.D. (sponsor of Bill).

Session Two

·       Representatives from Féileacáin, Ms Nina Doyle, Regional Coordinator and Parent Representative,

·       Réada Cronin T.D. (sponsor of Bill), and

·       Ms Caroline Smith and Mr Martin Smith.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Kathleen Funchion TD said “This Bill plans to amend the Parental Leave Acts 1998 and 2006, to entitle employee parents whose child has died to the legal right to time off work and proposes to establish parental bereavement leave as separate from other leave.

“We look forward to our engagement tomorrow with those attending and will seek information on what is currently in place and how they see the legislation being implemented and ultimately strengthened.”
