Vol. 134 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wage Increases.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that on the 4th July, 1952, a claim for increased wages was made to the Office of Public Works by its employees in the Phoenix Park and St. Stephen's Green; and, if so, if he will state when a favourable decision may be expected.

It is not possible to take a decision on this matter until the Government have had an opportunity of considering the wages position of State employees, generally, in relation to all relevant considerations.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary give any estimate of when the Government will reach a decision on this matter—now that the financial position has improved?

I do not know when a decision will be taken, but it is expected that the Civil Service Arbitration Board will have for consideration a certain other matter which will have a distinct bearing on this in a week or so.
