Vol. 323 No. 3

Written Answers . - Mayo Water Scheme .

471.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason no progress has been made towards the approval of the headworks for the Loughanaveeney group water scheme, County Mayo; and if, in view of his predecessor's statement in Castlebar last year, he will now have approval issued to enable this work to proceed as soon as possible.

: The original design for this group scheme envisaged the use of Loughanaveeney as its source. Mayo County Council were concerned about the adequacy and quality of this source and asked their consultant for a report on the matter. Arising from this report the council submitted proposals for a public scheme which would be an extension of the Castlebar (Lough Mask) Regional Scheme and which would serve the group scheme and adjoining areas. These proposals are being examined and it is hoped to convey a decision to the council in the matter shortly.
