Vol. 568 No. 2

Written Answers. - Tax Reliefs.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

142 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Finance if charitable organisations will be given a subsidy to compensate them for the irrecoverable VAT they have incurred, in view of the fact that the EU 6th VAT Directive contains nothing to prevent this, provided that State aid rules are observed; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16108/03]

I have no plans to provide any grant or subsidy of the sort described. The cost of such a subsidy would exceed €60 million at a minimum and could not be justified in view of the considerable and generous tax reliefs provided to the charitable sector.
