Vol. 224 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Sligo River Drainage.

15.

asked the Minister for Finance when the survey of the Arrow-Owenmore catchment area in County Sligo started; when this survey will be completed; and if he is aware that the River Arrow, which floods thousands of acres of land, was on a priority list for drainage some 60 years ago; and that levels were taken for the drainage of the Arrow in 1924, but that nothing has been done since.

The engineering survey of the Owenmore-Arrow Catchment was commenced in 1963 and is expected to be completed in 1968.

I am aware that a scheme for the drainage of the Arrow was prepared in 1927 under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1925, but the county council did not make the necessary contribution which would have enabled it to proceed. A scheme for the Owenmore was carried out under a special Act of 1926.
