Vol. 224 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Gross National Product.

4.

asked the Taoiseach what information is available as to the gross national product accounted for in each of the last five years by such State and semi-State organisations, boards or companies for which the information is available; if he can name the various organisations which make up such total; and if he can make an estimate, however approximate, of the percentage of the gross national product for each of these years accounted for (1) by the State and semi-State organisations named and (2) by all such organisations including those named.

Data relating to the wages and salaries and the total trading profit of the larger State concerns have been extracted for recent years. The contribution to gross national product at factor cost of 21 large State concerns in each of the years 1960 to 1964 is estimated as:

Year

%

1960

7.4

1961

7.5

1962

7.6

1963

7.9

1964

7.6

Corresponding information for 1965 is not yet available. The concerns included are Bord na Móna, Electricity Supply Board, Cómhlucht Siúicre Éireann, Ceimicí Teoranta, Aer Lingus, Aer Línte, Aer Rianta, Córas Iompair Éireann, Irish Shipping, Radio Éireann, Central Bank, Agricultural Credit Corporation, Industrial Credit Co., Irish Life Assurance Co., Hospitals' Trust Board, Shannon Free Airport Development Co., Córas Tráchtála, Bord Fáilte, Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies, Institute for Industrial Research and Standards and Foras Talúntais.

As regards (2) of the Deputy's question it is believed that, approximately, the contribution to gross national product at factor cost of all such State concerns lies between 8 and 8½ per cent.
