Vol. 247 No. 11

Written Answers. - Consumer Price Index.

95.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state (a) the consumer price index at 1st October, 1965, and at present; (b) the amounts of money now required to equal (1) £100 and (2) £1,045 at 1st October, 1965.

(a) The consumer price index is calculated for mid-February, mid-May, mid-August and mid-November each year. The index to base August, 1953 as 100 was 144.8 at mid-November, 1965 and 178.0 at mid-February, 1970, the latest date for which a figure is available.

(b) It is estimated on the basis of these consumer price index numbers that (1) £100 and (2) £1,045 would have purchased at mid-November, 1965 the same quantities of goods and services at retail prices as £122 18s 7d and £1,284 12s 0d, respectively, at mid-February, 1970.
