Vol. 320 No. 6

Written Answers. - Kerry Pension Book Renewals.

207.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason arrears of non-contributory old age pension have not been paid to a person (details supplied) in County Kerry, when payment of same will issue and the reason for the delay in renewing a pension book in this case.

The person concerned has been in receipt of a widow's non-contributory pension from my Department since 1968.

In June 1979 it was reported that her pension order book had been forwarded for adjustment in February 1979 in respect of a child who had commenced employment. Although the pension book was not received in my Department at that time, due possibly to the postal dispute, a replacement pension order book effective from 22 June 1979 was issued without delay.

As the original pension book which was reported to have been forwarded in February 1979 has not been received in my Department it was necessary to ascertain from the Department of Posts and Telegraphs the date of the last order cashed in the missing book. This information has since been obtained and a payable order in respect of arrears of pension from February to June 1979 has been issued direct to the pensioner.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason a non-contributory old age pension book has not been renewed for a person (details supplied) in County Kerry.

A renewal pension book payable from 4 April 1980 at the rate of £18.10 weekly was in fact issued in this case on 31 January 1980. The Deputy's question is the first indication to my Department that the book was not received. I have now arranged to have a replacement book sent direct to the person concerned.
