Vol. 320 No. 7

Written Answers. - Commonage Acreage.

60.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the total acreage of land held in commonage in the county and the steps being taken to encourage the division of same.

A figure for the total acreage of commonage in the country is not available. It is estimated, however, that in the western counties where the vast bulk of such land is located, some 500,000 hectares are held in common.

It is the continuing policy of the Land Commission to encourage as much as possible the division of productive or potentially productive commonages and the commission are prepared to give the fullest co-operation and assistance to shareholders who are anxious to have their commonages divided.
