Vol. 321 No. 2

Written Answers. - Western Drainage Schemes.

26.

asked the Minister for Finance the reason for the delay in the implementation of the Western Drainage Scheme, for which EEC grants were available; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The programme under the EEC directive for the acceleration of land drainage in the western region provides for arterial drainage schemes in three catchment areas, namely, Corrib-Mask-Robe, Boyle and Bonet, which would be carried out under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945.

Work on the Corrib-Mask-Robe arterial drainage scheme commenced in January 1979. The schemes for the Boyle and Bonet catchments have been exhibited publicly and the works are expected to commence later this year. The delay in commencing works on the Boyle and Bonet is attributable to the need to comply with the requirements of the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945.
