Written Answers. - Currency Valuation.
The value of the pound is estimated on the basis of the consumer price index which was calculated in respect of mid-January, mid-April, mid-July and mid-October during 1923 1930 and in respect of mid-February, mid-May, mid-August and mid-November from 1931 to-date. The amounts which would have been required at mid-January in the years 1928 and 1930 and at mid-February in the later years mentioned by the Deputy to purchase the same quantum of goods and services at retail prices as £1 would have purchased at mid-January 1925 are given in the following table.
