Vol. 416 No. 6

Written Answers. - Discussions with British Chancellor.

Jim Kemmy

Ceist:

99 Mr. Kemmy asked the Minister for Finance if he intends, within the context of the Anglo-Irish Agreement, to have discussions with the British Chancellor of the Exchequer with a view to the harmonisation of indirect taxes between Great Britain and Ireland so as to improve trade in Ireland, and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The issue of the harmonisation of indirect taxes is being dealt with by Community Finance Ministers in the wider EC context and, accordingly, is not appropriate for substantive discussion in the context of the Anglo-Irish Agreement other than in respect of aspects which do not have overall Community implications.
