Vol. 509 No. 1

Written Answers. - Pension Schemes.

Ivan Yates

Ceist:

144 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if her attention has been drawn to the very poor performance of the pension returns currently and over recent years to former employees of Aer Lingus and Aer Rianta; if she will have discussions with the chairpersons of the boards of these companies to see what can be done to ensure that their pension schemes are properly administered in order that the rate of return can be similar to that in other comparable employment; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [19836/99]

I have asked the chairmen of the companies concerned to establish a task force to examine concerns which have been expressed by a number of Aer Lingus and Aer Rianta pensioners about the Irish airlines (general employees) superannuation scheme and to submit a report to me as soon as possible which clearly sets out what the concerns about the existing scheme actually are.
