Emmet Stagg

Ceist:

1134 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Education and Science if his Department's planning unit has completed its review of the long-term projected enrolments for Maynooth post-primary school, County Kildare; if he is in a position to authorise the extension to the school which is required because of serious overcrowding; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20666/00]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 975, 1128 and 1134 together.

My Department's planning unit has recently completed its review of the long-term projected enrolment for Maynooth post-primary school. County Kildare VEC has been informed of the outcome of this review.

The architectural planning for an extension at the school will resume as soon as a schedule of residual accommodation is drawn up. It is expected that this schedule will be drawn up very shortly.

John Bruton

Ceist:

976 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science the action, if any, taken by his Department in planning a new national school at Johnstown, County Meath; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19141/00]

A review of the primary school accommodation needs in the general Navan area, including Johnstown, has been carried out by my Department. As a result of this review, a need has been identified for a new primary school to meet the demand for school places arising from the growth in population due to significant housing development in the area.

The next step will be to make arrangements in relation to the patronship of the proposed school.
