Joint Committee on Health to meet for an update on the challenges facing the provision of dentistry services

30 Aib 2024, 15:24

The Joint Committee on Health will meet on Wednesday, 1st May for an update on the challenges facing the provision of dentistry services at 9:30am in Committee Room 2 of Leinster House.

The Committee will hear from representatives from the Irish Dental Association and the Dental Council.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Seán Crowe said “Our Committee looks forward to hearing from both organisations attending tomorrow on the challenges facing the sector currently. We will seek insights and more importantly, their proposals to continue to tackle the ongoing recruitment issues and capacity crisis and how to improve services for dental patients in Ireland.

“The recent figures published by the Irish Dental Association revealing that over 100,000 children were denied school screening dental appointments in 2023 will also inform our update tomorrow and we will look to both to outline what progress they see in relation to the on-going waiting list issues experienced by Irish dentists and patients alike.”

The meeting in Committee Room 2 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
